The Pueblo of Cochiti, ten miles north of
Domingo, New Mexico, a station on the main
line of the Santa Fe Railway near Albuquer.
que, New Mexico, was found by OƱate in
1598 and was the seat of the Spanish Mission
of San Buenaventura with 300 inhabitants in
1680. The church, hundreds of years old, is
still standing. In spite of the fact that the
Cochiti inhabitants are nominally Catholics
they are intensely conservative and still pre-
serve their ancient religious rites.
