MAJOR NATHAN GOFF, JR.
(1843-1920)
Union Civil War officer, was born in
Clarksburg. He helped organize the Third
Virginia Volunteer Infantry (U.S.A.) and
after distinguished service was captured
by Confederates. He was held at Libby
Prison and later exchanged in August,
1864. He was U. S. Senator from West
Virginia, 1913-1919..
