Protestant chapel founded in 1858 by Lieutenant Julian McAllister in gratitude for his miraculous escape from death in an explosion. Dedicated to Cornelius, Roman centurion converted to Christianity and patron saint of military men. Architect was Richard Upjohn who also designed Trinity Church, New York City. President Woodrow Wilson worshipped here a number of times in 1916 during weekend cruises on the yacht Mayflower.
