JUDGE ISAAC CHARLES PARKER'S COURT
Ft. Smith, Arkansas
The building that was to house this famed
United States Court was built in 1840 as a
barracks for two companies of soldiers. It was
originally a two-storied structure, but after a
fire in 1865 was rebuilt as 12 story affair.
During the War between the states, it was used
as a hospital, first by the Confederates who
captured the Fort in 1861 and later by the
Union forces, who occupied Fort Smith in 1863.
