AMBOY VOLCANIC CONE One of the youngest cones
in the Southwest, estimated age, less than 1,000 years.
One of 13 in a chain extending from Amboy, California
to Pisgah Cone, 9 miles west of Ludlow, California. The
volcanic ash which has accumulated in windrows is of
considerable value. It is crushed into granules and used
in the manufacture of pumice building block. It is a fine
insulator, extremely dense and impervious to water.
