Additional Details:
Highway 91 crosses the Santa Fe Railroad at Barstow, named for William Barstow Strong, president of the Santa Fe when it entered California. It was in 1885 when the road was completed to San Bernardino. In 1908 a fire destroyed the depot and Harvey House. A Chinese restaurant replaced the Harvey House until the present structure was built. In 1916 the freight depot was destroyed by fire.
