St. Lucia. This island, originally a French possession
was captured by Admiral Rodney in 1778 and it was
the only one of the Antilles group which remained a
British possession after the reverses which followed the
capitulation of York Town. At the peace of Versailles
St. Lucia was restored to France, but was retaken by
Sir Ralph Abercrombie in 1796.
