The Chelsea Piers extend along the Hudson River, from
the 23rd Street Ferry to West 12th St. and were erected by
the city in 1902-07, at a cost of $15,000,000. The first ship
to land at the piers was the late Cunard Steamer "Lusi-
tania, on her maiden trip in 1907. The piers are used
by the Cunard line, French Line. Atlantic Transport
Line, Red Star Line, White Star Line and American Line.
Over 2 000,000 passengers arrived and sailed from this
pier in 1914.
