MAJOR JOHN ANDRE hung as spy at Tappan, N. Y. Oct. 2. 1780 brought to a stapd by John Paulding, Isaac Van Wart and David Williams. Andre had been commis sioned to buy with gold what steel could not conquer; to drive a bargain with one ready for a price to become a traitor.-His remains were afterwards transferred and buried in Westminster Abbey. Generał Arnold's treason revealed Sept. 26. Washington writes,Arnold's conduct is so viflan- ously perfidious, that there are no terms that can describe the baseness of his heart.
