The Gettysburg Address
Extract from book, "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address"
by Orton H. Carmichael.
“About nine o'clock Mr. Nicolay, Secretary to the
President, went to the room in the Wills House occupied
by Lincoln and found him at work upon the address which
he was to deliver. He continued to write, so far as the
many interruptions gave him opportunity, up to the time
it was necessary for him to take his place in the proces-
sion.”
