Up this mountain to the summit,
2345 feet above sea level, winds a broad
road five miles in length; a most charm-
ing drive amid the birches, ever-
greens and wild flowers. It is owned
and was built by James C. Colgate,
a most philanthropic citizen of Ben-
nington. At the base of the mountain
is located the Everett Cave, one of the
largest caverns in the country. In the
foreground stands the Old FirstChurch
and the residence of Admiral Wells L.
Field, U.S.N. (retired).
