Additional Details:
Dewey homestead, built by the "Parson" for his son in 1765, on which floor the night of August 15, 1777, slept many American Patriots, while the women of the household baked eighty loaves of bread for their use the following day of strife. All the men folk having left for battle and an Army surgeon having appropriated the horse left for her flight, it was Mrs. Mary Tilden Dewey who propose, if necessary, to defend herself against the Indians, to bombard them with "Hasty Pudding and a quantity of boiling water."
