Highlights of Chambersburg: The heart of our city, Memorial
Square, on which our four banks, the Central Presbyterian Church,
Franklin County Courthouse, and the monument commemorating
the burning of Chambersburg are located, is the hub of our city.
It was here that General Robert E. Lee, commander-in-chief of
the Southern Armies, held a council of war with his aide, General
A. P. Hill, on Friday, June 26, 1863. The northern march of the
mighty host of the South was directed toward Gettysburg after
this memorable meeting of Generals Lee and Hill.
