PERFORATING POSTAGE STAMPS. The stamps
are printed in sheets of 400, and after being gummed by
machinery, are sent to perforating machines, appliances
armed with batteries of countless rapidly moving needles which
perforate the rows of tiny holes that separate the stamps and
permit the sheets to be subdivided at will..
