Independence Hall. Independence Hall was built in
1729-35 as the Colonial State House, and in it the first
Congresses met. Here the Declaration of Independence
was signed July 4th, 1776, and the first Constitution of the
State of Pennsylvania adopted September 28th, 1776. It
is now a national monument, commemorating the birth of
the Republic.
