The Wolf. (Canis lupus.)
The Wolf is a savage animal belonging to the Dog
family. The many varieties are distributed mostly all over
the world with the exception of Africa and South America.
These animals are particularly destructive to sheep, and
when pressed by hunger, will enter houses and attack the
inmates. They also gather together in packs, when no
animal can stand against them, such is their ferocity. The
cry of the Wolf is a long-drawn, melancholy howl, generally
uttered at night when these animals make their excursions.
