Educational Series Birds 402
This handsome bird of brilliant plumage came originally, at a very remote date, from Asia. It is now to be met within most countries of Europe and is especially preserved in Great Britain for sporting purposes and on account of the excellency of its flesh. Besides being rapid fliers, pheasants run very swiftly, seeking shelter in the undergrowth. The nest is on the ground, placed under cover, and the eggs, of a greenish-brown color, are from ten to eighteen in number. |
