Where the Fox River flows under the bridge
A COUNTRY INN ON THE RIVER'S EDGE
Come back in time with us to –
1842 — The thick-walled building which is today our Stone
Room was built as a blacksmith shop for the new town of
Geneva. Across the road was the mill, and water, diverted
from the river to turn the mill wheel, created the mill race.
1933 – Announcement of a new life for the old blacksmith
shop: "The Mill Race Inn, a new restaurant, now open for
lunch, tea and dinner is at the water's edge of the Fox River,
and has two real charms of old world inns: good food and
an attractive setting. Ann Forsyth, owner.”
1946 Ray C. Johns, retired president of a national res-
taurant chain, buys Mill Race Inn from the Forsyths, estab-
lishing a family business which continues today into the
third generation with Rae Johns Ellsworth and her daughter
Bonnie.
Today we still offer in the words of 50 years ago “the charm
of old world inns: good food and an attractive setting.”
THE INN — serving American country fare for lunch and
dinner.
THE MILL GRILL — serving grilled fare and cocktails from
late morning thru late night.
THE GAZEBO — serving cocktails and serenity on the river's
edge.
