Station, one of the world's greatest aviation bases and an
essential part of America's system of national defense.
This busy seaport-industrial airport is headquarters for
several major Naval Aviation commands including the
Commander, Second Fleet and the Commander, Air Force,
Atlantic Fleet; it operates one of the busiest airports
in the world averaging 12,000 landings or takeoffs each
month; it has one of the largest aircraft overhaul and
repair depots in the world; and it ships supplies and
rebuilt, modified Navy planes to naval air units through-
out the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Caribbean waters.
