SUTTER CREEK, CALIFORNIA
On Highway 49 (Main St., looking North), in the historical
Mother Lode Country, was named after General John A. Sutter,
who built his first sawmill on Sutter Creek, and under his regime
gold was discovered. The old Eureka Mine, nearby produced
for Leland Stanford the money for investment in the Central
Pacific Railroad from which he reaped his millions.
