SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR ELECTRIC GENERATING STATION
Located on the Pacific coast five miles south of San
Clemente, Calif., this station will be the world's largest
operating nuclear generating plant when completed in 1967.
With a capacity of 450,000 kilowatts — enough power to
supply a city of more than half-million population the
plant is being built by two investor-owned utilities, Southern
California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric. The two
companies will share the costs and output of the station
Edison, 80% and SDG&E, 20%.
