in the Constellation of Andromeda
NGC 224, Messier 31
THE NEAREST AND BRIGHTEST OF ALL SPIRAL NEBULAE, THIS
SYSTEM OF STARS IS QUITE SIMILAR IN FORM AND STRUCTURE
TO OUR OWN STELLAR MILKY WAY SYSTEM. ITS DISTANCE IS
ABOUT 1,000,000 LIGHT YEARS. (1 LIGHT YEAR 6 MILLION
MILLION MILES.) THE TWO SMALL NEBULAE ARE COMPANIONS OF
THE LARGER, THE THREE FORMING A TRIPLE SYSTEM.
