The New Montreat Auditorium, Presbyterian Assembly Grounds - sixteen miles east of Asheville, (Black Mountain Railway Station) was completed in 1922. It is built of Montreat stones picked from the brooks; practically fireproof and has a seating capacity, including balcony, of five thousand. It is said to be the most complete Auditorium in the South. The Montreat Assembly accommodates not less than 12,000 people annually. This Gateway was erected by the Woman's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church, U.S. in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of their organization. |
