The heavy, square piers and arches on the
first floor are of Kasota stone. Just above,
at the second story, is a circular balustrade
of marble from France and Greece. About
ten feet from the balustrade the circu-
lar form becomes octagonal, with
with four
walls of Kasota stone forming the piers which
support the dome. In each of these piers
is a niche intended for statuary, an inlaid
panel of Italian marble above, and a seat
of Grecian marble below. Over the piers
are a series of paintings by Eward Simmons.
