BROOKLYN, N. Y.
The British were pursued until dark,
(F5) the Americans, in both engage-
ments, killing 207, wounding 80 and
capturing 654, a total loss to the enemy
of 941. The American loss was only
30 killed and about 40 wounded. The
aggregate number of Americans en-
gaged was about 1800. The British
had about the same number, including
the Tories and Indians. It was a highly
important victory, being the first regu-
larly fought one in the Revolution and
the first serious check to Burgoyne's ad
vance.
