Additional Details:
Designed for aerodynamics, structural, and other flight research in the Mach-2 range, the needle-nosed X-3 has provided much data on aircraft with small thin wings. It was first test flown on 20 October 1952 and is the forerunner of many current supersonic fighters. Of the two X-3s built, one is exhibited at the Air Force Museum, W-PAFB, Ohio.
