WASHINGTON TAKING OATH OF OFFICE-
George Washington was inaugurated as first President
of the United States on April 30, 1789, in Federal Hall,
which formerly stood on the site of the present United
States Sub-Treasury, at the corner of Wall and Nassau
streets, New York City. The oath of office was admin-
istered to him by Chancellor Livingston, from the bal-
cony facing Broad Street.
