FULTON HOMESTEAD. At the age of seven-
teen, Robert Fulton went to Philadelphia to
pursue his genius. and talent as an artist,
and derived a living from painting portraits and
landscapes and making models of machinery. He
remained there until he was twenty-one years of
age, and enjoyed the acquaintance and society of
Benjamin Franklin. On his twenty-first birthday
he took his mother and sisters from Lancaster to
Washington County, Pa., and purchased a farm for
the sum of $400, thereafter known as the Fulton.
Homestead.
