CLERMONT MANOR. Property of Chancellor
Livingston, who furnished the funds for Fulton's
experiments. Fulton's Steamboat, the "Clermont,'
was named after this estate, and it was here she
made the first stop, August 18th, 1807, on her
maiden voyage up the Hudson from New York.
The "Clermont" is seen in the distance, and, in
the foreground, Fulton recounting the trip from
New York to his friend and patron.
