The Yosemite Valley is a mighty canyon in the
Sierra, seven miles long and a half mile wide, with
perpendicular walls of granite. The floor of the
valley is a beautiful meadow, through which flows
the sparkling Merced River. Into the valley falls
the loftiest cataract in the world, Yosemite Falls,
2,325 feet. Bridal Veil Falls, noted for its beauty,
has a sheer drop of 620 feet. Nevada Falls, 594
feet and Vernal, a solid sheet of crystal water
80 feet wide at the crest, drops 317 feet. With its
vivid green setting glistening in perpetual spray, it
is considered California's most beautiful cataract.
