THE CORWIN OR "WITCH" HOUSE AT THE CORNER OF NORTH AND ESSEX STREET, WAS STANDING IN PART LEAST IN 1675 WHEN THE EHIMNEYS WERE TAKEN DOWN AND THE BUILDING REMODELED. IN THIS HOUS LIVED JONATHAN CORWIN, ONE OF THE JUDGES OF THE WITCHCRAFT EXAMINATIONS WERE HELD. IT YET RETAINS THE OVERHANGING SECOND STORY BUT IS GREATLY DEFACED BY A MODERN DRUG STORE. FROM THIS DRUG STORE IT IS POSSIBLE TO PASS THROUGH AN ARCH IN THE GREAT EHIMNEY WHICH IS ABOUT 12X8 FEET IN DIMENSIONS AT THE FIRST FLOOR. |
