MONUMENT.
The Square is surrounded by attractive
public buildings and contains the iniposing Morgan Monument;
this monument was erected to the memory of Daniel Morgan,
an American soldier (1736-1802) who was named "Hero of
Cowpens'', on account of the service he rendered on the
Revolutionary battlefield of the Cowpens, - nine miles beyond
