NEW AND OLD LIGHTHOUSES, CAPE HENRY.
Cape Henry, adjacent to Virginia Beach, stands a silent sentinel
guarding the lower Chesapeake. Two lighthouses identify the
spot, one dating from 1690 and which years ago cast its rays
in calm and in storm, and the new one, recently erected, which
serves as a greater guide to the mariner. Here the Jamestown
settlers first disembarked, but were driven back by the Indians.
