EXCURSION TRAIN.
SUMMIT OF WHITE PASS.
The above is a photograph of a train of the White Pass and Yukon R. R. taken at the international boundary line
between the United States and Canada at the summit (2800 feet elevation) of White Pass. During the years 1897-8 over 20,000
prospectors passed this spot on foot in a mad endeavor to be the first to put pick into the ground covering the greatest deposit
of virgin gold in the history of the world. The summit is 21 miles from Skagway and is visited yearly by hundreds of tourists
to whom a special train is given for this purpose.
