Built in 1743, of wood, cut and painted to resemble stone; located on the Virginia shore of the Potomac, 16 miles south of Washington; has shaded lawns, deer park, gardens and orchards, and lying about it are the acres that constituted Washington's farm. Washington's tomb is near the mansion. Patriotic women have preserved the house and grounds as left by their illustrious owner. The bedrooms, with their four-posters and other quaint furniture of the long ago, are cared for just as when they served the family of the Father of our Country. Photographed for literature of Draughon's Practical Business Colleges: Washington, Raleigh, Atlanta, Nashville, Little Rock, St Louis, Evansville, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Shreveport, Jacksonville, and other cities-31 colleges.
