PARADE OF CADETS. The Virginia Polytechnic Institute
was founded in 1872 by the State, with the proceeds of the
land grant donated to the State by, Congress. Its buildings and
grounds are worth over $500,000. The average attendance of
cadets is about 600. They are organized into a battalion of six
Infantry Companies, one Battery of Light Artillery, Staif, Band,
and Drum Corps. Dress parade is held every Friday afternoon.
