WESTOVER - Probably the most famous of the James
River plantation houses, located on Route 5 between Wil-
liamsburg and Richmond. Westover was built in 1730 by
Colonel William Byrd, founder of Richmond. The lawn,
with century-old tulip poplars, gives a commanding view
of the James River.
