RIGGING SUPPORT FOR LIFE LINE. In order
to bring shipwrecked persons ashore by means of a life line
without danger of being engulfed by the waves, it is necessary
that one end of the line be tied high up on the mast of the
unfortunate vessel, and the shore end of the rope also raised
as much as possible. In the absence of buildings or other
support, the elevation of the shore end is accomplished by
means of a heavy portable tripod, which is erected by the
life-savers in an incredibly short time.
