The Shawnee Steam Plant which is being
built by the Tennessee Valley Authority near
Paducah, Kentucky, has 10 stacks, each of
which towers 250 feet above the ground. This
$216,000,000 power plant, one of the largest
in the world, will generate 1,500,000 kilowatts,
part of the power requirements of the new
billion dollar Atomic Energy Plant, also near
Paducah. Construction of both plants was be-
gun in January 1951, with completion sche-
duled for late 1955
