Three centuries ago, Mesilla was a flourshing
Indian Settlement, a stopover for the Con
guistadores on their treks northward to Santa
Fe. In more recent years, its colorful historical
role has included the Copitol of Arizona &
New Mexico territories ofter the Gadsen Pur-
chase in the village plaza in 1853. "Billy
the Kid" walked these streets during his short
