SIDNEY HILLMAN
Born Zagare, Russia, 1887; imprisoned as
youthful revolutionist before coming to Amer-
ica on August 10, 1907. Married Bessie
Abramowitz, 1916. Early affiliate of I. W. W.
and other radical groups; cooperated with
Communists to get control of American Labor
Party in New York. With help of Commu-
nists and other radicals formed C. I. 0. Politi-
cal Action Committee for the promotion of a
fourth term for Franklin D. Roosevelt; was the
most powerful influence in the Democratic
National Convention of 1944; now chairman
of the Political Action Committee, where
fourth-term campaign is largely conducted.
