President's Palace, on the Plaza de Armas (or public
square), is one of the finest buildings in Havana and
occupies a whole square. It was erected in 1834, but has
been partly remodelled by the Americans. Besides the
residence of the President, the building contains the Hall
of City Government and various civil offices On May 20,
1902, the flag of Cuba was raised on the Palace.
