Morro Castle, the imposing old fortress of solid stone,
is situated upon rocks at the entrance to Havana harbor.
It was built in 1587 by Philip II. of Spain, but since then
has undergone many alterations in the process of adopting
modern military appliances. It is surrounded by a moat
70 feet deep, and has a water battery named after the
twelve Apostles.
