Old Maori from Puketeraki, New Zealand
This stalwart old Ma.ori is elad in a fine flax mat (Kàitaka) over which he is
wearing a dogskin mat of elegant finish. In his hand he grips the symbolic
Taiaha, the great weapon of ancient New Zealand, while his hair is decorated
with feathers of the Tropic bird called by the Maoris, Amokura.
