& The Single Tax theory is to send the city worker
from a desk to a ten-acre farm, raise the tax rate from
$2.50 to $7.00 per $100 and insist that he work out his
own destiny and a living for his family. It simply
cannot be done.
q Is there any possibility that the Single Taxers will
succeed in increasing the productiveness of the land
with higher assessments when syndicates have failed
with the present moderate rate of taxation?
q If there is one measure calculated to attract un-
desirable immigration to California, it is Single Tax,
the dream that would make every tramp a vested land
owner without the necessity of hard work, and also
give him a salary for doing nothing.
g Alteration of the revenue laws of California should
be accomplished by Legislative enactment, where all
localities are represented, rather than by the purchase
of petitions by non-resident theorists.
G Before voting for Single Tax, the Union workman
who now has steady employment in the city should
ascertain how much of a living he can make if there
should be a decreased demand for the product of his
labor through a period of financial depression, caused
by refusal of banks to loan on realty values.
g If you vote for this amendment and it carries, there
will be wasted $75,000 which the State has expended
for a report on taxation and which will be presented
to the Legislature about sixty days after the election.
