Additional Details:
Home of the PCL San Francisco Seals, 1907-30 Forerunner to Seals Stadium - Replacing the 1906 earthquake and fire ravaged ball grounds, Recreation Park in the Mission District was home to the Pacific Coast League franchise beginning the following season and continuing - with the exception of 1914 when the team switched to foggy Ewing Field - until concrete and steel Seals Stadium opened in 1931. The 15,0000- seat "Old Rec" featured a 235 foot RF foul line - but with a huge fence that reduced many potential home run shots to singles. Under the grandstand, behind chicken wire, was an eight-row section - the Booze Cafe. It remained a holdover from pre-prohibition days when the 75 cent ballgame ticket also covered a shot of whiskey, two bottles of beet or a ham and cheese sandwich. Reportedly, few chose the sandwich.
