CHS #2
THE MANSION
STATE HEADQUARTERS OF THE
CALIFORNIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
2090 Jackson Street, San Francisco 9, California
Founded in 1852 and privately supported,
the Society collects, preserves, and
disseminates information relating to the
history of California and the American West.
MEMBERS' ROOM - One of the most beautiful
rooms in the Mansion. Octagonal in shape,
it is distinguished by a ceiling of elaborate
stucco work executed by European craftsmen.
The subtly toned Aubusson carpet was designed
for the room. The piano, one of the first in
the state, was brought around the Horn in
1843 for Senor Don Jose Abrego.
