The Douglas C-124 Globemaster 11, operated by
the U. S. Air Force's Military Air Transport Serv-
ice (MATS), has a main cargo hold of 10,000
cubic feet and can carry a payload of more than
50,000 pounds. As a troop carrier the four en-
gine C-124 has a capacity of 200 troops and
their field equipment. Powered by four Pratt-
Whitney 4,360 engines, the C-124 has a maxi-
mum air speed of 250 m.p.h.
