JAMES K. POLK'S ACHIEVEMENTS
James K. Polk was the son of a poor
Irish farmer of North Carolina, who gave
him a good education. He served fourteen
years in Congress; became Governor of
Tennessee; and then President. During his
term Texas and Wisconsin were admitted,
the Mexican War fought successfully, and
the Oregon boundary line settled with Eng-
land
