FILLMORE A SELF-MADE MAN
Millard Fillmore got little schooling in
his boyhood, and at fourteen he was ap-
prenticed to a fuller.
"bought his freedom," and taught school to
study law. He served four terms in Con-
gress before his election as Vice-President,
and succeeded to the Presidency on the
death of Taylor in July, 1850.
