Wanamaker's Mailing Card 1876 32d Anniversary-1908 Fillmore a self-made man Millard Fillmore got little schooling in his boyhood, and at fourteen he was apprenticed to a fuller. In a few years he "bought his freedom," and taught school to study law. He served four terms in Congress before his election as Vice-President, and succeeded to the Presidency on the death of Taylor in July, 1850.
